Working Classroom Hero

cropped-1958377_10102254657744834_1139403904_n-1.jpgHero? It’s not as grandiose as it sounds. It probably is as earnest and smarmy as it sounds, though.

In short, teaching is an inherently heroic profession. It’s a refusal to partake in an unexamined status quo in favor of building a better future. It’s a principled stand against demagoguery, xenophobia, fascism, etc. On some days more than others, it’s the work of superheroes.

It’s also work. Professional work and not some divine vocation. Exacting, often tiresome professional work.

So, that’s it. A working classroom hero is something to be.
